This eight-session course is designed to provide you with tools to navigate the journey of grief.


If you have lost a loved one through death or a broken relationship, or endured a loss of business, home or lifestyle, then this course is  for you.


The course is facilitated by trained Lay Counsellors who will guide you through this traumatic time, and give you tools to help you cope.


In this Course, we cover various topics such as:

Understanding your feelings are normal


Faith in a time where you don't understand, 'Why?'

The Grace Counsellor Training Course covers the Wholeness Counselling Model which is a Christ-centred framework geared to equip those who have a heart to see people heal and grow. The training will equip the student with the ability to provide short-term lay counselling that is goal-orientated. The primary aim is to point people to a restored relationship with God. 


For those of you looking for a course in personal growth, this one is for you. Many GroupLife leaders have also found this Course gave them useful tools when facilitating their groups.


Included in the Course are basic Lay Counselling Skills Training with practical applications, tools and assessments [registration selection dependent].


Please note that the Wholeness Course [4-session] is a prerequisite to the Grace Counsellor Training Course and is available on DVD [R100] with accompanying manual [R50]. This can also be obtained digitally.


The Wholeness Course covers the Theology behind the Model of Lay Counselling used in the Grace Counsellor Training Course. The truths learned in this Course will be valuable for personal application to prepare for counselling others.


The Wholeness Course is perfect for anyone seeking to understand how God fits into every aspect of their lives. It is a great next step for those new in their faith, for those seeking to grow and for those wishing to become lay counsellors. It brings together the five areas of human function – the spiritual, rational, behavioural, physical and emotional aspects of self. Grace Counselling Mentorship


The next exciting step! Once you have your Grace Lay Counselling Certificate, you can enter our Grace Counselling Mentorship as a Mentee where you will have a Mentor showing you how to put all that you have learnt into practice with live cases. This is a great opportunity for gaining valuable experience first-hand. When you are ready you will be moved into a Lead Lay Counsellor role and will mentor new students as they come into the programme.


As part of the Mentorship Program you will benefit from the Upskill and Pastoral Counsellor Coaching sessions, which aim to keep you equipped for the counselling room. 


Our valued counselors volunteer hours in time slots that suit them and at the site that is convenient for them. We have counselling facilities at our Grace Family Church campuses at Ballito, Cornubia, Riverside, and Online and at Harvest Church in Somerset Park.

UPON COMPLETION

Once students have successfully completed this training, they can then enter our Mentor / Mentee Counsellor Programme, and sit in on cases with lead counsellors. After a time of learning and evaluation, they will then be ready to move into that lead counsellor role and mentor new students as they come into the Programme.


Our valued counsellors volunteer hours as and where they can, and we offer counselling online and at Ballito, Cornubia and Riverside. We invest into our counsellors with Upskill Sessions and Pastoral Coaching to ensure that they have everything they need for the counselling room.


We see roughly 100 counselling cases a week and our counsellors often walk away from the counselling rooms more fulfilled each week. The stories of healing coming from this ministry are so moving - from mourning to joy, from confusion to clarity, from wanting death to embracing life!


Our team of counsellors cannot wait to welcome you into the family as you journey with us on the Training.

This ten-session Course covers the Wholeness Model of counselling used at Grace, which is a Christ-centred, Biblical framework of short-term goal-orientated counselling. Registrants are required to have done the four-session Wholeness Course which runs twice a year at Grace and is available on DVD with manual. Dr Diane Langberg is a practicing psychologist whose clinical expertise includes 35 years of working with trauma survivors and clergy. She speaks internationally on topics related to women, trauma, ministry and the Christian life.


She is the director of Diane Langberg, Ph.D. & Associates, a group practice in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, staffed by Christian psychologists, social workers and counselors. The staff has expertise in many areas, including sexual and domestic abuse, addictions, depression and eating disorders. They work with adults, children and adolescents, and couples.

RED SHOE PLAY THERAPY TRAINING

These introductory play therapy workshops are aimed at providing participants with an introduction to play therapy, different play therapy models, techniques and skills that can be applied during service-rendering to clients with moderate emotional problems.


The following aspects are addressed: 

  • Unique characteristics of the child client
  • Theoretical concepts of child-centred play therapy and gestalt play therapy
  • A multi-dimensional play therapy model for assessing children
  • How to prepare for the first play therapy session
  • Setting up a playroom
  • Goals and administrative forms for the first parent consultation (participants will receive several handouts that can be used)
  • Assessment play techniques for pre-school children with emotional problems
  • Assessment play techniques for children 5 years and older
  • Skills for structuring a non-directive play therapy session

  • Understanding children’s unique temperament and how to take this into account when planning a play session
  • Activities and techniques for enhancing children’s contact-making skills
  • Projective techniques that can be applied during play therapy. The focus will be on drawing and painting, clay play, sand tray therapy, dream work and making use of puppets and puppet theatre
  • Self-nurturing work with children
  • Termination in play therapy

During the workshop the focus will be on experiential learning and course participants will get the opportunity to take part in drawing, clay play, sand play, sensory work and work with puppets. DVD’s will be shown to further illustrate certain concepts.

Dr Rinda Blom has extensive training and practical experience in the field of play therapy and emotional intelligence and is a registered social worker. She has a Masters and Doctoral degree in social work, focussing on play therapy and emotional intelligence. Rinda has more than seventeen years of experience in working with children with emotional problems. She has also received advanced international training in play therapy, emotional intelligence and has trained professionals such as social workers, psychologists and occupational therapists in this field for many years.
